"The One's" Approval Rating Declines

Yep, Obama is settling in as a run-of-the-mill President; his approval rating is already down roughly 20%.  Not that it’s unexpected.  He set the bar pretty high during the campaign, and his vague promises allowed people to assign a LOT of miracles to him that he just can’t accomplish (remember the lady that thinks she’ll no longer need to worry about gassing up her car or paying her mortgage?).

Don’t get me wrong, while I don’t like where we’re headed, and I think he’s off to a horrible start, Obama still has time to be one of our best Presidents.  Heck, he hasn’t even been in office a month, that’s hardly enough time to do much of anything (other than close Gitmo, I guess).  The big problem he faces in the arena of public opinion is that he isn’t the Messiah, a miracle-worker, or anything else; he’s just a politician.  That alone sets him up for Bush-level disapproval.

RNC Names New Chairman

From the AP:

The Republican Party chose the first black national chairman in its history Friday, just shy of three months after the nation elected a Democrat as the first African-American president. The choice marked no less than “the dawn of a new party,” declared the new GOP chairman, former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele.

Full Article

Admittedly, I don’t know anything about the guy.  However, this concerns me:

Steele, an attorney, is a conservative, but he was considered the most moderate of the five candidates running.

Looks like the Republican party is well on its way to becoming “Democrat Lite.”  Not good.  Not good at all.

Stimulus Likely To Pass: More Money That Won't Help Is On Its Way!

From AFP:

US lawmakers were to hand Barack Obama the first major win of his week-old presidency on Wednesday, overriding chiefly Republican objections to pass an 825-billion-dollar economic stimulus plan.

Well, we get lots of pork, including $335,000,000 for STD prevention, and a stimulus package that’ll do little to fix anything.

CHANGE!  HOPE!  POST-PARTISAN!

Whew, that makes it all better!

DeMint: “I’ve been around long enough to know whenever someone tells me I have to make a decision right now, my response is no…”

One of the best Senators out there (and probably a top 5 reason to consider moving to South Carolina) talks stimulus:

Obama Gives First Interview As President. . . To An Arab Network

From MyWay:

President Barack Obama on Tuesday chose an Arabic satellite TV network for his first formal television interview as president, delivering a message to the Muslim world that “Americans are not your enemy.”

Full Article

Maybe it’s me, but don’t the problems at home trump what the rest of the world thinks about us?  America needs a President, not a world leader or celebrity spokesperson.  Talk to the people that voted for you, and stop worrying about how popular we are in the rest of the world!

Farewell Gitmo!

From The Associated Press:

The new Obama administration circulated a draft executive order Wednesday that calls for closing the controversial detention center at Guantanamo Bay within a year and halting any war crimes trials in the meantime.

I don’t necessarily support torture, but it really feels like we’re trying to play an honorable game with people who will lie, cheat, and steal to win.  How many Americans are we putting in harms way by trying to respect people that want us dead?

W. Returns Home

John Ziegler is Awesome

Admittedly, he caught Nora off guard. However, this should’ve been said a looong time ago:

HT: Copious Dissent

President Jeb?

From Fox News:

The first President Bush said he would like to see his other son, Jeb, become president one day, but if now’s not the time he’d be an “outstanding senator.”

Full Article

I’ve heard rumors that Jeb is the “smart Bush,” whatever that means.  However, unless Obama bombs hard, Jeb’s chances are pretty slim; his brother has done a lot of damage to the family name in the political arena.  Unless the 55-year-old can hold out for at least a decade, he’s going to face an uphill battle to convince people he isn’t “W: The Sequel.”

The Burris Appointment: Is Harry Reid A Racist?

From Politico:

The defiant move by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to name a Senate successor to Barack Obama has triggered a political and legal mess that could drag on for months and is already prompting uncomfortable racial questions for Democrats.

Full Article

Question: why is race even a factor?  Burris was appointed by a guy who tried to sell the seat to the highest bidder!  This appointment is tainted, whether it’s a black man, white woman, Samoan pre-op, or anyone else.  In all honesty, I have no idea why anyone would accept an appointment from Blago; until this is all sorted out, anyone he appoints should turn him down.

Obama: Don't Ask Me No Questions

As someone who has really missed HamNation, I’m happy to see that ol’ Mary Katharine is still at it:

Bill Richardson: Commerce Secretary

From Fox News:

The commerce secretary-designate has withdrawn his nomination because of an investigation into whether Bill Richardson exchanged New Mexico state government contracts for campaign financing.

Full Article

Say what you will, I respect this choice.  Unlike ol’ Blago, Richardson realizes he’s got big problems on his hands and is looking to address them (or maybe cover them up.  I guess we’ll see when it’s all said and done).

Blago To Name Obama Successor

From Fox News:

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich reportedly is planning to name a replacement to fill Barack Obama’s vacant U.S. Senate seat Tuesday, even though his attorney said just two weeks ago that the governor would not exercise his appointment powers in the face of Senate objections.

Full Article

Looks like he’s naming former IL Attorney General Roland Burris.  I have to tell you, I don’t envy Burris.  Considering all that’s gone on, I suspect he’s now in the cross-hairs of federal investigators.  Even if he’s done nothing wrong, being investigated has to be a HUGE pain.

Blago Ain't Goin' Nowhere

From Fox News:

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, declaring he will “fight” until his last breath, defended himself Friday for the first time since his arrest last week on federal corruption charges.

Full Article

He’s got a 4% approval rating, is facing criminal charges with some pretty solid evidence, yet he’s trying to keep his job?  Rod Blagojevich is a classic example of what’s wrong with the system!

RINO John McCain Takes Swipe At RNC Criticism of Obama Blagojevich Relationship

From ABC News:

Sen. John McCain, D-Ariz., took on his own party this morning for continuing to criticize the way President-elect Barack Obama has handled the scandal surrounding Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Full Article

He’s criticizing this:

While I see his point about focusing on the issues facing our country and not political scandals, having a President with ties to criminals and thugs bothers me.  What to do, what to do…

Sarah Palin Makes People Explode! Oh, The Humanity!

Well, not literally.  I’m a fan, but I feel like such an outsider if I don’t bash her!

Anyway, from Fox News:

Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss, fresh off his victory over challenger Jim Martin in the Georgia Senate runoff, told FOX News Wednesday that campaign trail appearances by Sarah Palin helped put him over the top.

Full Article

…and the quote I paraphrased (just so I don’t look too crazy):

“When she walks in a room, folks just explode. And they really did pack the house everywhere we went. She’s a dynamic lady, a great administrator, and I think she’s got a great future in the Republican Party.”

I agree with Saxby, for the most part.  However, unless she gets a little more meticulous about her bookkeeping, she’s going to end up discrediting herself over minor issues.  Let’s face it, minor things that the average citizen could get away with will get a politician skewered; the opposition looks for any little thing they can use.  Until she fully accepts this, she’s not going to achieve her full political potential.

The Great Obama Birth Certificate Brouhaha Heads To The Supreme Court

From The Chicago Tribune:

The U.S. Supreme Court will consider Friday whether to take up a lawsuit challenging President-elect Barack Obama’s U.S. citizenship, a continuation of a New Jersey case embraced by some opponents of Obama’s election.

Full Article

I’m not an Obama fan, and I think it would be interesting to see what is done to resolve the issue of a President-Elect being declared inelligible for the Presidency (does Biden get it?  McCain?  a new election?), but I agree with Patterico here; there’s nothing to this.  It’s nothing more than Obama opposers trying to find anything to keep him out of office, and it’s crossed the line from desperate to pathetic.

Zawahiri:Obama is "House Negro"

From Fox News:

Al Qaeda No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri insulted Barack Obama in the terror group’s first reaction to his election, calling him a demeaning racial term implying that the president-elect is a black American who does the bidding of whites.

Full Article

For reference, here’s the amlocolm X speech referenced:

To understand this, you have to go back to what [the] young brother here referred to as the house Negro and the field Negro — back during slavery. There was two kinds of slaves. There was the house Negro and the field Negro. The house Negroes – they lived in the house with master, they dressed pretty good, they ate good ’cause they ate his food — what he left. They lived in the attic or the basement, but still they lived near the master; and they loved their master more than the master loved himself. They would give their life to save the master’s house quicker than the master would. The house Negro, if the master said, “We got a good house here,” the house Negro would say, “Yeah, we got a good house here.” Whenever the master said “we,” he said “we.” That’s how you can tell a house Negro.

If the master’s house caught on fire, the house Negro would fight harder to put the blaze out than the master would. If the master got sick, the house Negro would say, “What’s the matter, boss, we sick?” We sick! He identified himself with his master more than his master identified with himself. And if you came to the house Negro and said, “Let’s run away, let’s escape, let’s separate,” the house Negro would look at you and say, “Man, you crazy. What you mean, separate? Where is there a better house than this? Where can I wear better clothes than this? Where can I eat better food than this?” That was that house Negro. In those days he was called a “house nigger.” And that’s what we call him today, because we’ve still got some house niggers running around here.

This modern house Negro loves his master. He wants to live near him. He’ll pay three times as much as the house is worth just to live near his master, and then brag about “I’m the only Negro out here.” “I’m the only one on my job.” “I’m the only one in this school.” You’re nothing but a house Negro. And if someone comes to you right now and says, “Let’s separate,” you say the same thing that the house Negro said on the plantation. “What you mean, separate? From America? This good white man? Where you going to get a better job than you get here?” I mean, this is what you say. “I ain’t left nothing in Africa,” that’s what you say. Why, you left your mind in Africa.

On that same plantation, there was the field Negro. The field Negro — those were the masses. There were always more Negroes in the field than there was Negroes in the house. The Negro in the field caught hell. He ate leftovers. In the house they ate high up on the hog. The Negro in the field didn’t get nothing but what was left of the insides of the hog. They call ‘em “chitt’lin’” nowadays. In those days they called them what they were: guts. That’s what you were — a gut-eater. And some of you all still gut-eaters.

The field Negro was beaten from morning to night. He lived in a shack, in a hut; He wore old, castoff clothes. He hated his master. I say he hated his master. He was intelligent. That house Negro loved his master. But that field Negro — remember, they were in the majority, and they hated the master. When the house caught on fire, he didn’t try and put it out; that field Negro prayed for a wind, for a breeze. When the master got sick, the field Negro prayed that he’d die. If someone come [sic] to the field Negro and said, “Let’s separate, let’s run,” he didn’t say “Where we going?” He’d say, “Any place is better than here.” You’ve got field Negroes in America today. I’m a field Negro. The masses are the field Negroes. When they see this man’s house on fire, you don’t hear these little Negroes talking about “our government is in trouble.” They say, “The government is in trouble.” Imagine a Negro: “Our government”! I even heard one say “our astronauts.” They won’t even let him near the plant — and “our astronauts”! “Our Navy” — that’s a Negro that’s out of his mind. That’s a Negro that’s out of his mind.

Just as the slavemaster of that day used Tom, the house Negro, to keep the field Negroes in check, the same old slavemaster today has Negroes who are nothing but modern Uncle Toms, 20th century Uncle Toms, to keep you and me in check, keep us under control, keep us passive and peaceful and nonviolent. That’s Tom making you nonviolent. It’s like when you go to the dentist, and the man’s going to take your tooth. You’re going to fight him when he starts pulling. So he squirts some stuff in your jaw called novocaine, to make you think they’re not doing anything to you. So you sit there and ’cause you’ve got all of that novocaine in your jaw, you suffer peacefully. Blood running all down your jaw, and you don’t know what’s happening. ‘Cause someone has taught you to suffer — peacefully.

Barack Obama: Hitler 2.0?

So, according to a recent WND article, there are similarities in the rises of Obama and Hitler.

Let’s face it, any time someone from “the Cult of Personality” gets a high-ranking political office, there are two accusations: new Hitler, and Antichrist.  For both, you really have to wait and see what happens.  I don’t think he’s either, but it never hurts to make sure you know history so you can see tragedy coming.  And I’d say that about ANY President.
