The Daily Show: Occupy Wall Street Divided

Say what you will about The Daily Show, this is funny stuff. Also, if anyone wants to let me in on the difference between private property and personal property, I’d be forever grateful!

Reason TV: The Top Five Environmental Disasters that Didn’t Happen

What does this prove? Ultimately, nobody knows the future. There are plenty of unforeseen variable changes that made these predictions incorrect. It also doesn’t help that politicizing environmental issues led to a big bunch of fear mongering for political gain.

Another Reason Walmart Scares Me: Napolitano Announces DHS Partnership With Retailer

CBS has the story here, but the gist of it is that several Walmart stores will have monitors at the checkouts playing a video encouraging people to look for, and report, suspicious activity. Sounds harmless enough, but something just doesn’t feel right about it. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

Rasmussen Reports: Voter Faith in Afghan Victory Hits New Low

Check it out here.

I’m no military expert, but I’d guess that any war that goes on this long will lose voter support. It just seems to be dragging on with no end in sight, and nobody wants a modern version of the Hundred Years War.

Reason.tv: Obama Gets Mythbusted!

Man, I love these guys! Fun little video, with an accompanying piece piece explaining their claims. That second video is after the jump:

Senate Blocks Obama’s Tax Plan

Washington Times has the story here.

Seems pretty clear that the cuts need to include everyone to pass, not just those making less than $250,000. Curious to see how this finally plays out, as the Bush tax cuts expire soon, and I’m sure voters of all economic classes won’t like the increase that results from that happening.

Breitbart.tv: Letterman’s Mom Doesn’t Believe Son’s Global Warming Hype

I have to admit, I stopped watching Letterman a while back because he started pushing a political agenda. Sometimes comedy + politics can be funny, but it’s not what I want out of late night TV.

That being said, I believe people, conservatives in particular, are making more of this than they should. Yes, Letterman probably disapproves of his mom’s stance on global warming. However, this is his shtick when dealing with his mom – he asks a question, she says something funny, the audience laughs, he shakes his head disapprovingly. They’ve been doing that for years, which is why it’s my belief he knew her feelings on this particular issue going in, and was just playing it for laughs. It isn’t as big of a deal as people are making it.

Jim Wallis: “There Wouldn’t Be A Tea Party If There Wasn’t A Black Man In The White House”

You know, right after Obama was elected, I was one of those people that thought we were moving towards a “post-racial” America. It looked as though we could finally judge politicians based on policies, not skin color. However, we seem to have spun off in another direction; instead of condemnation for skin color, we get accusations of racism for disagreement.

Don’t get me wrong, there are racists at Tea Party rallies that want Obama out simply because he’s black. There will always be people out there that hate others for stupid reasons. However, as a whole, the Tea Party movement came about because people didn’t like the way this country was going (in other words, opposition to big government), and that’s the driving force behind the group to this day.

Jim Wallis is crying racism because it’s a conversation ender. He’s trying to shut up his opponents.

Homeland Security Seizes Domain Names

It doesn’t surprise me that the government is seizing websites that violate copyrights, but I do have a question:  Why does this fall under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security?

Reason.tv’s Porkers Of The Month For November

Instead of remedying the waste, they want to jack up taxes so the money will go where intended? I’m speechless…

Rasmussen: Many Say Government Now Operating Outside the Constitution

The specifics are here.

44% of likely voters feel the government is operating outside of the Constitution. Not a majority, but it is the biggest group of those polled (see the article for specifics).

Not sure what this leads to, but I’d guess that number will continue to grow. The recent election was a good sign, but there’s still a long way to go to get our government & economy under control.

Ron Paul Introduces ‘American Traveler Dignity Act’

He’s on the right track. Let’s hope the vote goes the way of individual freedom.

Republicans Fail To Cut NPR Funding

Lamborn presents a really good case. However, the measure failed. Two problems here:

  • Pretty much every Republican I heard arguing in favor of the cut mentioned Juan Williams. I’m of the belief that Williams’ comments didn’t warrant termination, but I also think this is coming across as Republicans looking for revenge in his name, which won’t win too man supporters.
  • Second, even though Republicans just won the majority in the House, that doesn’t kick in until January. Did they really think they could pass this with a bunch of big government lame ducks voting?
  • This can, and should, pass, but it won’t until sometime next year. Even then, I’d expect the Senate and the President to stop it. Government shouldn’t fund the media, but it’s an uphill battle to fix that

Sarah Palin: I Could Beat Obama

PTImbz*1NWZhNzg*YWIzYWM*YjkyOGZkM2Q4Y2JlMDQzODUxZCZvZj*w Sarah Palin: I Could Beat Obama

Now, being the skeptic that I am, I don’t think this can be honestly evaluated until the full interview airs next month. This is just a snippet intended to tease a Barbara Walters special, so I’d expect ABC to edit in such a way that it’s as tantalizing as possible.

That being said, I’m not sure Palin has a chance in 2012. Her base followers love her, but those that hate her REALLY hate her. I think the Republican candidate with the best chance of winning is someone not on the national scene right now. They’re probably big in state politics somewhere, but I suspect they’ll show up out of the blue and really rev people up…sort of like Obama did in 2008.

What could make QE2 easier to understand than an explanation from foul-mouthed cartoon characters with robot voices?

CNBC’s Burnett Compares Soda to Cocaine, Asks Is Soda Industry ‘Killing Us’

Just my $.02, but it looks like the nanny state will probably ban or severely tax – just like they do cigarettes – anything deemed “not good for you” sometime within the next few years. The media is slowly moving toward attacking these items, and it’s my experience that this is the first step in that direction.

Bonus: Did you catch Erin Burnett’s statement, “…is there anything good about drinking a full-calorie soda…?” Now, I realize the segment dealt with sugary drinks, but any dietitian I’ve ever seen talking on the subject has said that regular soda is safer than diet soda, as the diet version is just a can of chemicals. However, Ms. Burnett’s question very subtly clears diet soda of any health risk. Inadvertent, or is this anchor a diet soda drinker?

China To Overtake US Economy ‘Within 2 Years’

That’s the headline over at Drudge at the time of this posting, with a link to this article.

Alarming? Absolutely, but it’s hard to be shocked by this. Heck, our leadership has been doing everything it can, whether intentional or otherwise, to do away with “American Exceptionalism.” I’m actually shocked that it took China this long to get there!

Jim DeMint: ‘You Can’t Be A Fiscal Conservative and Not Be A Social Conservative’

    Two words: Penn Jillette

In all seriousness, I really do like DeMint, but I have to disagree on this point. The fact that most social liberals vote Democrat seems to blur the lines on what they believe. However, if I’m not mistaken, one of the over-simplified definitions of a libertarian is someone who wants the government out of their wallet and out of their bedroom.

You can’t legislate morality, and I firmly believe education on social issues does far more to strengthen the family and whatnot than any laws could ever hope to do.

As of right now, the Pentagon is claiming to have no knowledge of the launch. Awesome. Could be nothing, but it is the type of thing that freaks people out.

    W. To Hannity: “I Wish [Jeb] Would Run”

    Yep:

On whether he thinks his brother Jeb will ever be President:

“I wish he would. He has to run first. And he has made it clear he is not running in 2012. And when the man says, ‘I’m not running,’ he means it. I wish he would run.

In a lot of ways, I feel sorry for Jeb Bush. Don’t get me wrong, dad & brother are big government Republicans, so I wouldn’t expect any different from Jeb. However, from what I’ve heard, Jeb is the “smart” Bush (though I think the others aren’t dumb, just had some problems with presentation). Unfortunately for him, but most likely fortunate for us, he comes from a family who’s brand name is very damaged. If he were to ever be President, I don’t think he could hope for anything sooner than a 2020 run, but I’m pretty much convinced his family is done in that office…unless a grandchild or someone younger than that comes along later.
